Trading Qestion, Please Help
The answer to this may be simple but I don't know what it is but want to find out so I don't look like a complete Noob, ha ha. OK, from what I understand, you can have only 100k on your character at a time, I am bidding on an item that is 100k+, so when you go to trade, how does one pay 115k for example? I realize ectos are also used as currency but I don't have any, may have to break down and get some, just wondering if there is another way? (BTW I have never had even 1 ecto, I own Prophecies, Nightfall and GWEN but only made it to the Ring of Fire last night, that's how new I am! Good thing is there is still lots of new stuff for me) Thanks in advance for any input.

try to agree with the seller on lockpicks. they have a pretty much agreed-on and stable value of 1250g each, and it's easy to buy them as well as to sell them for that value.

Unless the other person will accept an offer of 100k plus a minipet, weapon or other item (usually won't happen unless you're getting ripped off to some extent), you're pretty much stuck with using ecto or lockpicks (or armbraces, but considering you don't have ecto, you're not very likely to have armbraces).

Ecto still remains the most accepted form of currency for 100k+ items. I think there's a slim chance that sellers will take anything other than gold and ecto, but usually only if they specify in their trade post. Most will post in caps 'NO TRADES!!" in their trade posts or 'gold/ecto only!'. Or basically they won't respond back if you ask to pay in something they don't want. :P
Since you said you were bidding on something, it's best to look at the page with the item and check what forms of currency the seller accepts. |

Don't forget, you can buy ectos at the rare mat trader if you need to use them - you will lose some money that way. Or you can advertise to buy some from other players.

Some buyers will accept other things, such as Obsidian Shards, but not as often. Others will accept lockpicks in payment. I use a lot of lockpicks so, I will even give a full 1.5k for them. Actually too, of course, many sellers are willing to let you simply give them 100k and then give them the rest in a separate trade. They won't give you the item until you give them the final payment though, so you'd have to willing to trust that they won't just "disappear" with your money. I did, for example, on one occasion, have someone give me 100k four times (for a total of 400k) in four separate trades - I gave them the item on the last trade. |

The other obvious way if you dont want to hassle with trading ecto and losing out with trader or ecto sellers (something I have done for more than one buying client) :
Most players that are selling something worth 100K + xx ecto already own a swathe of ecto. If you agree a price of say 145K for an item. You can ask the buyer if he has the ecto to do the thing in two trades : 1st trade - you give 45K for agreed number of the sellers ecto (this should reflect something approximating market conditions so that there is no temptation on either party to run off if they think they can make a quick profit). For the sake of argument, lets use a market value of 4.5K per ecto, so the trade would be 45K for 10 ecto. 2nd trade - you give 100K + those 10 ecto to the seller and he gives the item. That way the only thing that has truly exchanged hands is the 145K you gave and he received - all as agreed, without you taking any risks on either trading ecto. This is a far superior way than trusting someone by handing money over in 2 stages and getting the item the 2nd time. Last edited by Davros Uitar; Jan 06, 2008 at 12:27 PM // 12:27.. |

Side note: You don't have to beat the entire game before being able to go to UW to get ectos. After you finished all the desert missions or got the SS as your base, you can go.

1. put in 100k and item around 15k, then trade 15k for the item back
2. 100k for the item first, then 15k, or get item the 2nd trade (depends on the fame of seller) |
